The LED SMT project, initiated by the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Institute at the Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences, part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has successfully achieved significant advancements in key technologies such as precise positioning, multi-axis coordinated motion control, and automatic pick-and-correct capabilities during high-speed operations. The project has now progressed to a small-scale trial phase.

This SMT machine is designed for research and development within the LED industry, catering to the flexible production demands of LED lighting. It is suitable for manufacturing standard 600/1200 mm LED fluorescent tubes (T8, T5) and encompasses a wide range of LED-related products, including LED lights, hoses, and patio lights. Additionally, the SMT machine offers highly flexible programming capabilities, allowing operators to adjust the SMT mode based on the BIN values of different LED components, thereby ensuring product uniformity.

To accommodate the varying characteristics of different components, the machine features a material suction nozzle designed for high wear resistance and a shrapnel design that minimizes impact force on the LED surface during mounting. It is also capable of mounting common RC or SOP electronic components. The machine can handle components ranging from 0805 to 24 x 18 mm, achieving a mounting speed of 8000 CPH, making it a highly cost-effective fully automatic SMT machine.

Through the project’s research and development efforts, the technical team has gained invaluable experience in the design and manufacturing of precision equipment, multi-axis cooperative control, and system integration, establishing a solid foundation for the advancement of high-speed and high-precision mounters.

 

SMT:

Also referred to as “Mounter” or “Surface Mount System,” this equipment is positioned in the production line following the dispensing machine or screen printing machine, where it accurately places SMT components onto the PCB pads. It is available in both manual and fully automatic versions.

The automatic SMT machine is designed for high-speed, high-precision, and automated component placement, making it the most essential and intricate piece of equipment in the entire SMT production process. As the primary machinery in the SMT production line, SMT machines have evolved from low-speed mechanical models to advanced high-speed optical alignment systems. Notable manufacturers include Sony (Japan) and Assembleon.

Classification:

Based on speed classifications, there are sub-medium speed SMT machines, high-speed SMT machines, and super high-speed SMT machines.

Specifications: These machines can achieve over 40,000 components per hour, utilizing a rotary multi-head system. The Assembleo-FCM and FUJI-QP-132 SMT machines are equipped with 16 patch heads, with patch speeds of 96,000 and 127,000 components per hour, respectively.

In terms of functionality, there are high-speed and ultra-high-speed SMT machines.

Specifications: These machines primarily focus on mounting SMT components, which typically have a limited variety. Additionally, there are multi-function mounters.
